What is UV coating exactly?

With the Premium Plus and Professional photo books you have the option to have the pages coated. The UV coating is an extra layer of protection that is applied to the spreads. This is sprayed and dries instantly. The layer protects against dirt and dust particles, and also offers increased protection against fingerprint marks and moisture. Should a droplet of water fall onto the page, the damage will be considerably less than if there were no extra protective layer. The page does need to be dried immediately, of course! The longer the droplet remains, the higher the likelihood of damage. The coating also protects against discolouration, although in practice that’s not as important, as the book won’t be lying continually open. The difference in appearance is negligible: the texture of the paper becomes a little more rigid, and the paper becomes fractionally glossier.
