Programmabureau Amsterdam Zuidoost (PBAZO) supports residents, volunteers and professionals in the neighbourhood with social and cultural activities. Their location NoLIMIT is a cultural centre for events, performances and workshops, and also offers rooms for hire for meetings and productions.

A piece of Zuidoost on the wall

In 2024, PBAZO NoLIMIT ordered 18 photos from Profotonet, all professionally framed. The images come from a special photo archive: over the course of three years, various jazz evenings at NoLIMIT were captured. The artists who performed during these evenings all have a special connection to Amsterdam-Zuidoost.

The photos have since found a place in a space with a warm, homely living room atmosphere. Each image tells its own story. Together, the 18 photos form a visual overview of the jazz evenings that took place at NoLIMIT as well as of the artists who have a connection with the neighbourhood. In this way, the images bring not only the music but also a piece of the identity and history of Zuidoost into the space.

Quality that matches the stories of Zuidoost

PBAZO NoLIMIT came to Profotonet through director Jannyt Twigt. Jannyt lived in Capelle aan den IJssel for many years and therefore already knew Profotonet. It quickly became clear that quality was an important requirement for the works. The choice fell on 18 black-and-white photos of 80x120 cm, finished with a black box frame. A combination that, according to PBAZO, perfectly matches the look they had in mind for the space.

The black-and-white images give the photos of the jazz evenings a timeless and characterful look. Thanks to the large dimensions, the artists are literally given space, and details, light and emotions during the performances stand out strongly. The black box frame ties in nicely with this: it gives the works a sleek, modern look, while the black tones from the photography seem to continue into the frame. This gives the photos a powerful and calm presentation, without distracting attention from the images themselves.

Positive reactions and local pride

The reactions to the works are positive. Janny, the staff and the artists alike are enthusiastic about the quality. When they look at the photos, they describe the feeling as a sense of pride:

‘’The images not only show what happened during the jazz evenings, but also represent an important piece of the identity and history of Amsterdam-Zuidoost.’’
