The difference between printed paper and photo paper
Many photo books are produced on paper designed for standard printing. In this process, images are printed layer by layer with ink, similar to a home printer. This method is fast and cost-effective but has its limitations. The color range of ink (CMYK) is smaller than that of professional photo paper (sRGB). As a result, bright colors can appear duller, dark areas may lose detail, and fine halftone patterns can become visible in the final print.
At Profotonet, we take a different approach: we print your photos on real photo paper, meaning light-sensitive silver halide paper that is exposed with a laser. This method produces smooth, even tones without halftone patterns, with vibrant colors and sharpness down to the finest details.
Why choose professional photo paper?
Our photo books are printed on Fujifilm professional photo paper, known for its wide color gamut, perfect brightness, and deep contrasts. Because the paper is exposed to light rather than printed with ink, details in both shadows and highlights are preserved. This ensures your photos look their best exactly as you intended.
We also use Fujifilm Album HD Paper, the high-definition variant of traditional photo paper. This paper features an extra protective layer against moisture and heat, and it has a higher maximum black level (high Dmax). This not only produces deeper blacks but also enhances overall sharpness and color reproduction.
The benefits in summary
- No ink, just light: your photos are exposed, not printed.
- Wide color gamut (sRGB): vibrant colors with subtle nuances.
- High Dmax: deep blacks and razor-sharp details.
- No halftone patterns: smooth transitions without visible dot structures.
