Not Printed, but Exposed

When you choose photo paper, your images are not printed but chemically developed just like a traditional photo print. This results in much sharper images and lifelike colors. While printed images often show dots or raster patterns, photos on real photo paper remain smooth and continuous.

Matte or Glossy Photo Paper?

Each type of paper has its own effects, and every effect has its fans. Of course, personal preference also plays a big role.

But when should you choose matte paper, and when is glossy better? Besides personal preference, it’s important to consider where and how you plan to display your photo. It’s well known that glossy photos (Fuji Glossy and Fuji Glossy Pearl) make the colors pop more the images really stand out, and blacks appear deeper. Fuji Lustre still delivers the same color intensity, but since it doesn’t reflect light, the effect appears slightly softer. Fuji Velvet, on the other hand, is noticeably less intense, with softer colors and a more subtle look.

The Location Where Your Photo Will Be Displayed

Depending on how much light shines on your photo, glossy paper can create reflections. These reflections can make the photo harder to see, and you may mostly see the light source or a window in the image. If you plan to hang your photo in a bright spot, we recommend Fuji Lustre or Fuji Velvet paper to minimize reflections.

Framing or Not?

If you want to frame your photo without a mat (the photo directly against the glass), Fuji Glossy or Fuji Glossy Pearl paper may stick to the glass. If you still want to frame your photo without a mat but want to avoid damaging it, it’s better to choose Fuji Lustre paper. Its slight texture minimizes the risk of sticking to the glass.

When using a mat, which creates some space between the glass and the print, any type of paper can be used.

Our Fujifilm photo paper is always the best choice for every photographer or hobbyist. With the highest resolution and top quality, you can enjoy your most beautiful moments for a lifetime.
