Profotonet offers two types of photo books. A Profotonet photo book is always a high-quality photo book, but which one should you choose? What are the differences between a Premium Professional photo book? And is it better to design your album in the downloadable software or the online editor? Read on and, hopefully, after this blog you’ll be able to make the right choice.

Which photo book should I choose?

At Profotonet, we offer three types of photo books: the Premium Photo Book, the Premium Plus Photo Book and the Professional Photo Book. All of these books share one important feature: they are all bound using the lay-flat technique. Fully flat pages without a bulge in the centre are not an optional extra, but our standard. In addition, all photo books are exposed on real photographic paper.

One key difference lies in the thickness of the pages. The Premium Photo Book consists of two photo prints bonded together. In the Premium Plus and Professional Photo Books, an extra 1 mm layer of museum board is added between the pages. These two books also feature foam padding in the cover, giving them a truly luxurious feel. Both lines are particularly well suited for wedding albums.

There are several overlapping and unique product options across the different photo books, which are clearly outlined in the table below.

Which designer should you choose?

At Profotonet, you can choose between an online design tool or software that you install on your own computer. Below, we explain the main differences along with the pros and cons of each option. This will help you decide whether online or offline designing suits you best. Factors such as computer security or the quality of your internet connection may also influence your choice.

Working offline with the Profotonet Album Designer software

Do you want the most extensive options for creating a photo book? Then download the Profotonet Album Designer. Below are the advantages and disadvantages of the downloadable version of our software.

Advantages:

  • Access to the Smart Designer, which quickly creates an attractive album proposal for you
  • No internet connection required to work with the software
  • More personalisation options, such as using your own fonts and custom templates
  • Automatic warnings and adjustments for risky placement of text and photo frames
  • Advanced alignment tools for positioning frames relative to each other
  • Works with shortcuts to the original photos to maintain optimal resolution
  • Ability to add multiple albums to the shopping cart and order them in a single order

Disadvantages:

  • Installation, updates and uploads may require changes to your computer’s security settings
  • Continuing your design on another computer requires transferring the project file and photos
  • The offline designer needs regular updates to access the latest design features and promotions

Our tip:
Do you have more advanced requirements, such as using your own templates or fonts? Or are you planning to spend a lot of time designing? Then we recommend downloading the software to your computer.

Designing in the online editor

Sometimes you just want to order an album quickly. In that case, the online editor is the perfect choice. You can even use it on your phone, very convenient. Below are the pros and cons of designing a photo book online.

Advantages:

  • No installation required; design your photo book directly in your web browser
  • Smart guide lines for easy alignment of frames
  • You can open your project from any computer
  • Create a nice album in no time and order it straight away
  • Ideal for Premium photo books, thanks to spacious page layouts that also work well on mobile

Disadvantages:

  • Ordering multiple albums in a single order is not possible online
  • No warnings for risky placement of text and photo frames
  • No Smart Designer available online (yet). Autofill works well, but Smart Designer performs better
  • Custom fonts cannot be uploaded and custom templates cannot be saved
  • A slow internet connection may negatively affect photo loading

Our tip:
Do you want to quickly create a nice memory the day after a fun evening? Or make a personal gift in no time? Then we recommend designing online.

Time to get started!

Now the real work can begin: selecting your photos. If you’ve been critical from the start about which photos to keep, you won’t have to sort through hundreds of images. Still have a large collection? Try using the Smart Designer. It intelligently selects your photos and creates a well-balanced album proposal. You can also make your own pre-selection by organising photos into logical folders. Once your photos are clearly grouped, creating an album becomes much easier.

Have fun and good luck with designing!
