: What are the dimensions of the passe-partouts?
The passe-partout has a width of 5 cm on all sides.
A 20 × 30 cm photo without a passe-partout fits in a 20 × 30 cm frame.
With a passe-partout, the frame size increases: you will need a 30 × 40 cm frame.
To determine the correct frame size, add 10 cm to both the width and the height of your photo.
How do I know if I am ordering the correct size?
When ordering a framed photo, you should always select the desired photo size. We automatically adjust the frame size accordingly.
Example:
You would like your selected photo file to be printed at 20 × 30 cm.
On the website, choose the 20 × 30 cm size and then select:
- the paper type
- the frame type
- the colour of the passe-partout
We will then automatically ensure that the correct frame is selected.
With a passe-partout, the corresponding frame size will be 30 × 40 cm.
: What colour options are available for a passe-partout?
You can choose between a black or white passe-partout. The inner edge is cut at a slight angle to create a subtle sense of depth. For both the white and black passe-partout, the bevelled inner edge is white.
: Can the photo frames be displayed freestanding?
No, our photo frames are not suitable for freestanding display.
The sizes start at 20 × 30 cm and the frames are too heavy to be placed safely. For this reason, we only offer frames that are designed to be hung on the wall.
: What is conservation framing?
The photo is mounted onto polystyrene using acid-free adhesive to prevent it from warping. The passe-partout is of high quality and free from acid and lignin, ensuring that neither the print nor the mount will discolour over time, preserving the integrity of the image.
Because we use only materials and techniques that provide long-term protection, this is referred to as conservation framing. It allows you to enjoy your beautiful print for many years to come.
: What material are your passe-partouts made from?
Our passe-partouts have an outer layer of high-quality white or black buffered paper and a core made of pH-neutral white alpha cellulose (wood pulp). They are completely acid- and lignin-free.
Being acid-free ensures that the colours of the print are preserved optimally. Being lignin-free prevents the passe-partout itself from discolouring over time.
: Why is my photo mounted onto polystyrene?
Your photo is mounted onto polystyrene to prevent it from warping due to humidity or temperature changes. This smooth and sturdy material ensures that the print remains flat and free from ripples.
: Is my photo large enough to be printed sharply?
As soon as you upload your photo file, the software automatically checks whether your image contains enough pixels per centimetre to ensure a sharp print. If this is not the case, the programme will indicate this with a red circle containing an exclamation mark.
: My photo is not displayed in full or only partially. Why is that?
This usually happens because the aspect ratio of the photo file differs from that of the selected size. If the chosen size has a different, smaller aspect ratio, part of the image will be cropped.
Would you like to prevent this? In the toolbar on the left, under Options, choose a size that better matches the aspect ratio of your photo file.
: I have a landscape photo, but the file is displayed in portrait orientation. How can I change this?
You can adjust the rotation by selecting ‘Change orientation’. This option can be found on the right-hand side of the page or on the left in the toolbar under Options.
: Can I order a size that is not listed on the website?
No, unfortunately that is not possible. We can only produce the sizes offered as options on the website.
: When can I expect my ordered product?
The production time for a framed photo is on average 7 working days. Once production has been completed, the order is handed over to the postal service the same day. You will receive a confirmation and a Track & Trace code to track your shipment.
